Your car filters need to be changed at different intervals, so you need to understand the interval for each filter. This information can be found in your owner’s manual. We are going to list general recommendations below, but it is important to understand that your vehicle’s manufacturer may have a different changing schedule. As such, check your owner’s manual, as well.
Air
The changing schedule for the air filter is every 12,000 miles. This filter is located in the engine so it can purify the air that is used in the combustion chamber. The combustion chamber uses both air and fuel to produce combustion. A clogged air filter can affect your engine performance by making the engine surge. Consequently, this surging will cause your fuel economy to tank.
Cabin
If you have a cabin air filter in the passenger cabin, it is probably located behind the glove compartment. This filter usually is changed in intervals of 30,000 miles. This being said, there are cabin air filters out there that need to be changed every 6,000 miles. Check your owner’s manual first and then take a look at what the filter manufacturer recommends in terms of changing intervals.
Fuel
The fuel filter cleans the fuel so it, too, can be burned in the combustion chamber. The average lifespan of a fuel filter is 30,000 miles. As such, we recommend that you have the fuel filter changed at this mileage duration or every two years. A clogged fuel filter can make it difficult if not impossible to start your automobile. It can also reduce your fuel economy.
Oil
The oil filter is changed when you get new oil put in the engine. Therefore, the duration of the oil filter changes depends on the type of motor oil you have in your vehicle. For example, conventional motor oil is changed every 3,000 miles, whereas synthetic motor oil is changed every 5,000 miles. Either way, you get a new oil filter when you have an oil change.
Transmission
Finally, the transmission filter is changed every 30,000 miles. This being said, your transmission may not have a filter. This is not a filter that is found in every automobile. Therefore, check your owner’s manual to see if your vehicle is equipped with a transmission filter. If it is, we can change it.
